Q. In light of the Summer Solstice. Also known as Midsummer...let's talk about fairies. What is your favorite fairy tale or story that revolves around the fae?

This is such an easy question to answer!  The Iron Fey Series is definitely my favourite fairy adventure by far!  The Iron King, The Iron Daughter, and The Iron Queen were an absolute delight to read: romantic, action-filled, tear-jering, and comedic.  Who knew faeries could be so kick-ass (and attractive)?
I am eagerly awaiting the next installment in the series The Iron Knight!

Review: The Iron King

The Iron King
by Julie Kagawa
5/5

Summary (Goodreads)
Meghan Chase has a secret destiny—one she could never have imagined…
Something has always felt slightly off in Meghan's life, ever since her father disappeared before her eyes when she was six. She has never quite fit in at school…or at home.
When a dark stranger begins watching her from afar, and her prankster best friend becomes strangely protective of her, Meghan senses that everything she's known is about to change.
But she could never have guessed the truth—that she is the daughter of a mythical faery king and is a pawn in a deadly war. Now Meghan will learn just how far she'll go to save someone she cares about, to stop a mysterious evil no faery creature dare face…and to find love with a young prince who might rather see her dead than let her touch his icy heart.

Quote:
"I guess the sacrifice of my dignity is the only thing that will save us now. The things I endure for love. The Fates laugh at my torment."

Review
This book seemed to be a delightful cross between the Chronicles of Narnia and Alice in Wonderland. The numerous settings were painted in vivid colours, and detailed with a variety of interesting creatures and monsters. A new slice of imagination revealed itself around every corner. Nothing about this book was predictable.

With an unending stream of action and surprises, the novel failed to reveal a dull moment. Although romance was not dominant throughout this plot, the few romantic scenes were very sensitive and real. Prince Ash was definitely my favourite male character and love-interest.

"The Iron King" has something to offer everyone: horror, comedy, romance, fantasy, friendship, and family. Reading it was a very refreshing experience as it was so original and creative.

I can hardly wait to read the next in the series, "The Iron Daughter."

I pictured Ben Barnes as Prince Ash...Though I tend to picture him for most of the love-interests in the books I read ;)
